Lembeh Straits

I’d been hearing about Lembeh for weeks...

Everyone I was with was so jazzed to go back to this special place where they saw these incredible creatures. My close friends and most trusted dive advisors had been raving about how much I’d love it. So when we pulled into the marina, I was more than a little curious about this whole situation.

Komodo National Park is a very arid micro climate that lies in the tropics, which is why it is the only place you can find Komodo Dragons, as their natural habitat is the low lying dry grasslands only found in that region, compared to everywhere else in Indonesia. The conditions in Komodo tend to be much better than that of the areas around it, as the high volcanoes of the surrounding islands of Flores and Sumbawa take up much of the rain during the ’wet season’.

I personally stayed in India for a while and been diving in Goa (west coast), Pondicherry (east coast), as well as the well known beautiful Andaman's islands. Honestly, i don't recommend liveaboard divers to dive in India, even in the Andman's Island.

On the mainland of India, there is not yet liveaboard trips that can be offered. There is only one liveaboard called M/V Infiniti offering long a week liveaboard trips around the Andaman's Island.

The secret life of turtles

For new divers, turtles are frequently the star of the show.

They are slow moving, easy to observe, and passive when encountered. And, they are just plain cute! Sadly, Six of the seven known species of sea turtles are threatened, or in decline due to pollution, habitat loss, overfishing, and changing ocean conditions. Worldwide efforts to protect these threatened marine reptiles are increasing, and in some areas turtles are making a slow comeback.

Raja Ampat is located off the western tip of what is known as the bird’s head peninsula in northern Papua (also known as Irian Jaya – the Indonesian half of the island of New Guinea), the most eastern province of Indonesia.

Sandy bottoms and life off the reef

When I was a newer diver, I was afraid to leave the reef and swim out into the sand beyond.

Throughout my dives, I would swim right along the edge of the coral and look out into the blue. It was ominous, almost like a desert. I wasn't sure how to navigate once I left the familiar natural features of coral and rock. And, I didn't know what to expect out there! What creatures would I find, and would I find any at all? Might I waste an entire dive just looking at the bottom?

Zenobia Wreck Dive in Larnaca, Cyprus

In June, 1980 the MS Zenobia sunk on her maiden voyage from Sweden en route to Syria. She was a roll on - roll off ferry carrying over two hundred million dollars in cargo including 104 tractor trailers. Thanks to this fact, she is also one of the largest truck graveyards in the world.

The captain and crew noticed problems steering her, and she began listing to port just before visiting Athens. At this time, her ballast tanks were pumped and she departed for Larnaca.

Depending on what year the car was registered, a license plate in Vancouver could either read “Beautiful British Columbia” or “The Best Place On Earth!”.

Not a humble claim to be sure, but not necessarily a false one either.

British Columbia, Canada is objectively beautiful and with all the mountains, lakes, rivers, temperate rainforests and glacial cut seascapes in any direction you turn, it certainly is better than your average place on earth.

Diving in Sardinia, where the Sea meets the Italian culture
