Description

Boat

Mimic was built in May 2015, it is one of the most comfortable and well-appointed budget liveaboards operating in Komodo.

Mimic's upper deck is converted to a sleeping area with comfortable mattresses, pillows, blankets and is of course covered to protect you from the elements. It’s very comfortable but also gives a feeling of being on an adventure, which you are!

Mimic's chef will prepare delicious meals four times per day (lunch is the first meal on the day of departure and the last meal on the day of return). Fresh water, tea and coffee are always available. There are charging points for electrical devices and ice cold sodas and beers for after diving.

Mimic also has a spacious dive deck, multiple areas to relax with comfortable bean bags and mattresses, and toilet with freshwater shower.

We also carry a kayak onboard for our guests to use to explore the white sand beaches and mangroves alone at suitable locations.

Whether you are diving, snorkeling or exploring the islands looking for the famous Komodo Dragons, Komodo will not disappoint. With stunning scenery both above and below the surface, this truly is a paradise for adventurous travelers.

Mimic is available for private charter or shared trips of up to 6 days / 5 nights. For a truly unique, custom-made experience send us a message to find out about our private charter trips for your group. You might be surprised just how affordable such a unique experience can be!

Itineraries

Komodo Diving Trip

Komodo offers some of the best diving on the planet, with marine diversity that is simply mind blowing! Beautiful coral reefs, pinnacles and seamounts with schools of pelagic fish, sharks and of course Manta! Komodo has a very healthy Manta population and these magnificent creatures can be seen year round at some sites.

But Manta are really just the icing on the cake. Reef Sharks, Turtles, Tuna, Giant Trevally, Napoleon Wrasse and a host of other beautiful fish and amazing macro critters are all on show here. Occasionally we are also lucky enough to see Whaleshark, Dolphins and even Whales during dives or as we cruise from one dive site to the next.

On every dive with us you will be accompanied by a guide who has a minimum PADI Divemaster or Instructor certification and lots of experience in Komodo’s currents. Our maximum diver to guide ratio is 4 guests per guide, but it’s often less on most trips.

We plan every trip according to local conditions and each trip is unique. We take in account tidal movements, weather, waves, visibility, and seasonal conditions. Most importantly, we try to avoid a majority of other tour operators and now crowded “instafamous” sites to lose the crowds!

During every trip, we also make regular land excursions including of course trekking with the Komodo Dragons. Other land activities include watching the sunset or sunrise from our favourite viewpoints, stops at secluded beaches, and much more. We also have kayaks available for guests to use to explore quiet beaches and mangrove forests alone at suitable locations.

We will always find the time to trek with the Komodo dragons on either Rinca or Komodo Island, as well as visit a secluded beach or two as we travel. Often we also either make treks for sunrise or sunset views over the islands, or make a sunset sail if these trekking locations are inaccessible or crowded.

There are still unexplored beaches and places to watch the sunset or sunrise in peace and tranquility. We are also constantly exploring the islands to find new dive and snorkel sites.

Embarkation and Disembarkation

Departure for both Wunderpus and Mimic boats is scheduled for 8am on the first day of the trip. This means that you’ll need a night in Labuan Bajo before the trip so that we can get an early start and maximise your time onboard.

We ask all guests to check in at our office on the main street next to Eco Tree Hotel the day before departure. At this time you will try on diving/snorkeling equipment, make any final payments for national park fees etc, and arrange your pick up/meeting point for departure of the trip.

We return to harbour on the last day around 4pm. Please remember to allow suitable time to decompress after diving before your flight (a minimum of 18-24 hours is recommended). If you are snorkeling and book a flight out from Labuan Bajo on the day of return, please ensure to let us know.

Non-divers

The best diving sites are also often the best snorkel sites. Most reefs in Komodo are very shallow, healthy and colourful. Snorkel guests regularly return to the boat with exciting news about seeing rare species like Dugong, Manta, Turtles, Whaleshark and many other marine species the divers miss.

All snorkel excursions are briefed beforehand, just like the dives are, and are guided by an experienced snorkel guide who knows the area and marine life well and is Rescue and EFR trained.
