Diving in Truk Lagoon is ideal for certified technical divers. Depths range from 18 meters to over 60 meters, and many wrecks are penetrable with proper training and equipment. Divers exploring the Japanese cargo ships, oil tankers, and battleships can encounter intact decks, aircraft fuselages, and even personal effects, creating an unparalleled living museum underwater. Strong currents are uncommon within the lagoon, but deeper penetration and decompression dives require advanced planning and experience. Nitrox and trimix are highly recommended for repetitive deep dives.
Water visibility in Truk Lagoon ranges from 20–35 meters in the dry season (November to May), while water temperatures stay comfortable between 27–30°C (81–86°F).
