French Polynesia is a tropical paradise in the South Pacific, made up of more than 100 islands spread across five main archipelagos: the Society Islands, Tuamotu Archipelago, Marquesas Islands, Gambier Islands, and Austral Islands. Known for its turquoise lagoons, vibrant coral reefs, and remote atolls, French Polynesia offers some of the most breathtaking underwater experiences in the world.

Diving here is diverse and exciting, ranging from shallow reef dives in calm lagoons to thrilling drift dives along outer reef passes, where large pelagics such as sharks, manta rays, and schools of tropical fish are common. Many dive sites feature dramatic drop-offs, colorful coral gardens, caverns, and passes where strong currents bring nutrient-rich waters, attracting rich marine life. While French Polynesia is accessible to all levels of divers, drift dives and deep-pass encounters are best suited for intermediate and experienced divers.

The islands enjoy a tropical climate, with May to October being the dry season—ideal for diving with calm seas and excellent visibility. Water temperatures range from 26°C in the cooler season to 29°C in the warmer months. The wet season (November to April) brings occasional rain and stronger currents, but also attracts manta rays, sharks, and other pelagics to the outer reef areas.

The Society Islands, including Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora, are famous for crystal-clear lagoons, colorful coral gardens, and reef sharks. The Tuamotus, especially Rangiroa, Fakarava, and Tikehau, are renowned for their shark passes, manta ray aggregations, and drift diving adventures. The Marquesas offer rugged volcanic landscapes and encounters with schooling jacks, barracudas, and rarely seen pelagic species. Each archipelago provides a unique mix of diving, culture, and scenic beauty.

Liveaboard Diving Regions :

Society Islands
Including Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, and Huahine, the Society Islands are famous for their lagoons, coral gardens, and gentle reef dives. Divers can expect reef sharks, turtles, eagle rays, and colorful tropical fish. Calm conditions make this region suitable for beginners and advanced divers alike. Liveaboards often combine lagoon diving with outer reef drift dives for encounters with manta rays and sharks.

Tuamotu Archipelago
Rangiroa, Fakarava, Tikehau, and Manihi offer some of the best drift dives in the Pacific. Divers can experience shark passes teeming with grey reef sharks, blacktip sharks, and sometimes tiger sharks. Manta rays and large schools of pelagics are common. Best diving occurs during the dry season (May–October), when visibility can reach 30 meters or more.

Marquesas Islands
Remote and volcanic, the Marquesas provide dramatic underwater scenery with strong currents and abundant pelagic species. Divers may encounter barracudas, jacks, sharks, and sometimes rare manta rays. These islands are ideal for experienced divers seeking adventurous, uncrowded dive sites.
