I had two trips to Blue Horizon during Aug and Sept 2015,even the weather is not so good, we still have a wonderful trip with the crews, we saw two whale sharks at Maamigil!! indeed a pleasure trip!

Boat

Horizon II was built in 2009, it is a type of yacht that is rarely seen in Maldives today, it is a traditionally built wooden yacht that is perfect for families or surfing group.

It is the agile adventurer that will take you to the most remote locations of the Maldives, where you can enjoy the secluded beaches and waters of the Maldives.

In the Salon, guests can find differant varieties of media entertainment such as TV and DVD, movies, as well as board games.

Horizon II offers full board meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner with desserts are served. Guests can enjoy the dining facilities on the front deck in a breath taking scenery and fresh air or in the indoor dining room. Complimentry tea and coffee are available on board at all times.

On the sun deck, guests can relax and refresh the mind on the lounge chairs with mattresses, enjoy the sun bath.

Horizon II also can provides fishing gear, Beach BBQ and Island Visit tours for guests. And Sucuba diving is not the only Water sports it can offers, surfers who wants to catch some good waves in the Indian Ocean is also welcome.

The surf dhoni tender has a surf rack and provides surf from morning sunrise to sunset with a local guide to support you in the water.

Snorkelling gear and fishing local style available for free.

Horizon II has 6 comfortable guest cabins, it can welcome up to 12 guests :

All cabins are air-conditioned and have ensuite bathroom

2 Double Cabins :
Located on the lower deck, each cabin comes with one double bed and one single bed in bunk style, portholes.

4 Twin Cabins :
Located on the lower deck, each cabin two single beds in bunk style, portholes.


Diving & Surfing

  • Scuba diving can be arranged for groups with additional charge.
  • Only 2 - 3 dives can be arranged per day, must pre-book.
  • No dive provided on the day of arrival and departure.
  • All diving will provide expericed guide to lead the dive.
  • The waves are from 3 feet to 6 feet. Rarely 12 feet.
  • SUP, Long board are available for rent during the cruise.
  • Intermediate surfing level are recommended.
  • In general more rights than lefts. it’s a 60% – 40%.
  • The waves are from 30 to 45 minutes distance
  • Two breaks can be found at each corner.
  • Surfers can usually bring 3 boards (5’11, 6’0)

Itineraries

10 days of Surfing on Horizon II

Day 1
Horizon II starts cruising at 6AM, we start from Thinadhoo Island that is 15 mins away from the airport. Breakfast is served at 8:30 every morning. The breakfast consist of bred, omelet, Jam, Peanut butter, Sausages, Fresh Orange juice and Butter. Around 9:30 we reach the first Surf Break that is near Vadhoo. This surf break is called “BLUE BOWL” it’s RIGHT guests to the surf breaks where Surfers can start surfing early morning. The swells start early morning. Guests usually spend 2 to 3 hours there surfing and having the time of their lives. Around 12:30PM the lunch is served! Lunch consist of Tuna, Vegetable rice, Sashimi with Wasabi oil and sauce. Fried cucumbers along with the Beans and pineapple in a dessert. After lunch, coffee is being served with light snacks. Guests get to decide if they want tea, coffee or beer. After lunch, surfers march once again to the surf break and do surfing until 5:30 or 6PM! After finishing the surfing, you get to enjoy a stunning Maldivian Sunset which will take you places! Dinner is served at 8:30PM and surfers sleep around 10 or 10:30PM!

Day 2
We start the day 6:00 AM cruising to the next surf point named Five Islands. (Tentative) While having breakfast at 8:30AM guests can get to see dolphins in front of the boat. For breakfast, Roshi is being served with Masooni (Maldivian breakfast) with bread, omelet and fresh juice. Upon reaching the Gan island, we check the waves. If it’s low tide, surfers wait for the tide to become a high tide. If the tide is low, surfers can do island hopping. GAN is a beautiful island. Surf guide and Dhoni crew takes the guests for an island hopping where we get to see the streets, houses and a local life style. After island hopping, it’s time for Lunch. Day 2 lunch consist of boiled rice and veggie curry with fried tuna and sashimi with wasabi sauce. Fresh juice following up with a light snacks and a coffee. After lunch, if the waves is still low tide, guests can do snorkeling. The uninhabited island next to Gan island has good reef and many fishes can be seen. Around 2 to 3:30PM the tide is high and guests can surf. The surfing finishes at 5:30PM – 6PM. Guests have light snacks and a coffee and get ready for the dinner. The dinner is spectacular. Veggie rice, pasta, beef, Tuna pizza, boiled pepper potatoes, salad is what we serve on day 2 of the surf trip! Dinner is served at 8:30PM and surfers sleep around 10 or 10:30PM!

Day 3
We start the day 6:00 AM cruising to the next surf point and have breakfast at 8:30AM For breakfast, pie with sauce, bread, omelet, sausages. Tea and Coffee. After the breakfast, guests go for surfing, if they, they can snorkel as well. Lunch. Day 3 lunch consist Fried Fish, veggie rice, Salad followed by a Coffee and snacks. Fresh juice following up with a light snacks and a coffee. After lunch guests go for another surf session. After this session, guests have light snacks and a coffee and get ready for the dinner. The dinner is spectacular. Fried Chicken pieces, Spaghetti with sauce and cheese, Tuna taco, veggie Rice, potato wedges and salad followed by a Coffee and snacks

Day 4
We started the day 4th by cruising to different surf breaks. Guests have the flexibility to check different breaks in Huvadhoo to surf. After the breakfast, guests go for surfing and have a 2 to 3 hour session. Sometimes a GoPro session as well. Post lunch, guests relax a little bit and then go for surfing again. Once they finish surfing session at 5:30PM, they can shower, have coffee and get ready for dinner.

Day 5
As usual we start the day at 6AM by cruising to the next surf break and check the waves and depending on the condition, surf there. After lunch, we came back to Tiger Stripes where the wind has been lowered down and we anchored there. After having dinner, guests did some fishing and caught many snappers and tuna!

Day 6
Guests can either surf or do an island hopping or snorkeling. it’s totally up to them.

Day 7
After the surfing session, dinner was served at 7:30PM

Day 8
Guests do surfing at 6AM and can have two sessions.
After having dinner, guests did some fishing and relaxed.

Day 9
As usual, guests go for surfing, come back, have breakfast, do some resting and do a second session around afternoon, once they come back, they take the lunch followed by a tea. They go for a third session and finish surfing around 6pm. There’s a special surprise on the last night! You can experience it while being on Horizon II.

Day 10
Guests start the day at 6 AM by jumping in the water for surfing. They can do either one or two sessions on the last day. A morning session and the afternoon session! Guests have a breakfast. Breakfast is served as usual with bread, omelet, oranges, masooni with Roshi (Maldivian Breakfast) with orange juice and apple juice followed by a coffee. After the second session of surfing, lunch is being served.

South Maldives

Best time for diving
December to April offers the best visibility and sea conditions. Although short spells of heavy rainfall can be experienced during the summer months, but this region do offer good diving all year round.

About temperatures
Air : range between 28°C - 32°C year-round.
Sea : very stable and warm, range from 27°C - 29°C year-round.

Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a dive Skin or 3 mm wetsuit throughout the year.

Diver requirement
Suitable for divers have AOW level with good drift diving experience, as there can be strong currents in the channels surrounding the islands.

Embarkation / Disembarkation
Most of the embarkation / disembarkation for South Maldives cruise (Meemu atoll, Thaa atoll, Felidhoo atoll) will be in Malé, guests need to fly in/out to Velana International Airport (MLE).

For the Deep South Atolls (Laamu atoll, Gaafu Alifu atoll, Huvadhoo atoll, Fuvahmulah, Addu atoll), domestic flights are usually required to Addu atoll (GAN), Gaafu Alifu atoll (GKK), Huvadhoo atoll (KDM) or Fuvahmulah (FVM). Longer trips like 2 weeks might depart or return to Male.

Visa Requirements
A 30 days tourist visa is granted for all nationalities on arrival to Maldives. This period of stay is not for the visitor to claim, but lies at the discretion of the Maldives Immigration to grant any number of days less than or equal to 30. Please refer to Maldives Tourist Visa for details.

Vaccinations
Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers over the age of 9 months arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.

Money Matters
The local currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (Rf), all liveaboards accept cash payments in USD or EUR.
Most travel-related costs will be billed in the major global currencies such as USD, EUR, as well as credit cards. The ATMs will only provide cash in Maldivian Rufiyaa.

Drones
Flying a drone is legal in the Maldives, but we recommend being aware of and compliant with the drone regulations. Please check Maldives Civil Aviation Authority for details.
