Description

Boat

The Sea Shell is a 36 Metre (118ft) wooden schooner, built and powered for comfort, safety and stability. She was built in 1920 in Holland, as a pilot vessel guiding ships across the English Channel. During the Second World War she was sunk by the owner to prevent it from being used in the conflict. In 1949 she was recovered and redesigned as a fishing boat. Then in 1982 under the name of Elisabeth Lown, she was renovated and chartered by a Belgian sailing school. Finally in 1997 she joined the cruise fleet in the Seychelles and became the Sea Shell.

She is twin diesel-powered and can cruise at 7 knots and has 220 volt power on board.

The Sea Shell sleeps up to 16 guests in privacy and comfort.

The main deck has a beautiful air conditioned salon with a TV/DVD, stereo player and an assortment of movies, CDs and books.

The upper deck is partially shaded and has chairs and tables. For those who enjoy the sun there is a bow sun deck with mattresses.

DAY 1 - SATURDAY

Embarkation at the Inter-Island Quay followed by the Captain's welcome briefing.
Depart Port Victoria sailing from Mahé to a late afternoon anchorage at Round Island, just off the isle of Praslin.
In the evening, introduce yourself to Creole cuisine with a welcome barbecue dinner onboard.

DAY 2- SUNDAY

Disembark on Praslin, Seychelles' second-largest inhabited island, for a visit to the famous World Heritage Site, the Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve.
Explore the valley's eerie pathways beneath its canopy of massive palms, before returning onboard for afternoon opportunities to dive, snorkel or enjoy other water sports.

DAY 3- MONDAY

A morning sail brings the vessel to La Digue, a sleepy island community where ox-carts and bicycles still remain the most common mode of transportation throughout the island.
Explore the entire island by bicycle, perhaps stopping by Union Estate, a sprawling network of traditional island activities, including a copra mill, vanilla plantation, and shipyard.

DAY 4 - TUESDAY

In the morning the vessel sails toward Grande Soeur and Petite Soeur (the Sisters) for excellent snorkeling and diving, and for a relaxing visit of these unique and completely uninhabited tropical islands.
In the afternoon, visit Coco Island, one of Seychelles’ tiny granite jewels, a fantastic spot for snorkeling within a kaleidoscope of tropical fish.

DAY 5 - WEDNESDAY

Sail to Booby Island for a morning of diving and water sports.
After lunch, sail to Aride Island, a globally important nature reserve with more native bird species than any other island, including five endemics and the world's largest population of 3 species (Lesser Noddy, Audubon's Shearwater and Seychelles Warbler), which can be seen along a spectacular nature trail.

DAY 6- THURSDAY

In the morning disembark at Curieuse for a visit of this virtually uninhabited island, to explore its mangrove forest and giant tortoise farm.
After a barbecue lunch on the island, enjoy an array of water sports or simply relax and enjoy the island's beautiful beach and turquoise waters.

DAY 7- FRIDAY

After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely sail back towards Mahé, with a last stop at Ile Seche for more snorkeling or diving, followed by a farewell barbecue.
The vessel overnights in the Ste Anne Marine Park.

DAY 8- SATURDAY

After an early breakfast, disembarkation is at 08.30am at Inter Island Quay, Victoria, Mahe.

Diver's reviews (1)

Christina, 21/06/2014

My family went for a 3 weeks long holiday in Seychelles October 2013, and we stayed one week onboard Sea Shell (2 adults, 1 young kid). The trip made me believed more that Seychelles soon will be one of the best holiday destinations for recreational diver! It offers a lovely combination for scuba, snorkeling (especially great for those who travel with non-divers)! Underwater world in Seychelles has an absolute profusion of reef life, we felt like diving in an huge aquirium, the fish life there was very good too, and visibility was super good in October. About the boat - Sea Shell itself, i would like to rate 3.5 out of 5. We had a double-bed cabin, with one bunk bed above. But i would say that the cabin was a bit small for a family of 3. The crew were very nice and helpful, food was good onboard.
