Itineraries

Haa Alifu + Haa Dhaalu Atoll

Hanimaadhoo - Hanimaadhoo, 8D/7N
"Haa Alifu" is the northernmost atoll from the Maldives and the distance to the capital Male is 480 miles.

With a sizeable local population and virtually no tourism development. The itineraries follow a combination of established dive sites alongside truly virgin sites that have rarely been dived until now. This is adventurous, pioneering diving, characterised by waters that are heavily populated with rays, game fish and abundant corals.

This area will appeal to divers looking to travel well beyond the tourist map and experience some truly original diving. Access to Haa Alifu is via Male and involves two-way domestic flights to Hanimadhoo airport, which can be organised as part of the your travel package.

Baa Atoll - Haa Dhaalu Atoll or Haa Dhaalu Atoll - Baa Atoll

Dharavandhoo - Hanimaadhoo or Hanimaadhoo - Dharavandhoo, 8D/7N

"Haa Dhaalu Atoll" (also known as Southern Thiladhunmathi Atoll or Thiladhunmathi Dhekunuburi) is an administrative division of the Maldives. It is a famous place for leopard sharks, they often shelt from the currents at Anemone thila or Keylakuna thila. After the shark fixes, the time comes to look for manta in Haa Dhaalu. Nellaidhoo thila is a must, especially with your camera! Manta soar above a school of bat fish and giant travellies. Macro lovers will also be delighted with the wealth of nudibranch and flabellina, espcially at Theefarido thila. Bodu Cave is an unusual dive and easy for all experience levels. Dive through the shallow cracks as the light bounces off the walls - simply spectacular!

In "Baa Atoll", there are many sites to choose from. Dhonfanu Thila has a busy fish life and when current swept, sharks, eagle rays and napoleons will be seen. Dhigu Thila is usually the third dive of the day. A long ridge with good hard coral on top. In slack water it is a great photography dive, in pumping current a long drift revealing a series of pinnacles that takes you on to another reef. During the Manta season at Hanivaru (July - November) one of the day dives will be substituted with a chance to dive or snorkel with this huge manta congregation. This is an incredible natural phenomenon and whalesharks are often also found, following the plankton into the lagoon. Maavaru Kandu is a long north facing channel wall. The many overhangs are festooned with a stunning array of soft coral nicknamed Swedish reef. from the predominant blues and yellows. While you are having breakfast, small journey north to dive 2. Fares, a remote shallow reef with large pinnacles on the western side. A real activity dive swimming around and through these huge rocks with good fish life and great coral. In season, a repeat dive/snorkel at Hanivaru can be made. Get your camera ready!

With Amba to the most northern atolls of the Maldives until Baa Atoll , a mixture of hot spots and pristine dive sites. Start from Hanimaadhoo within 1 week to Baa Atoll. From Baa Atoll (Dharavandhoo) within 1 week back to Hanimaadhoo.

You can start/end the safari in Hanimaadhoo or in Dharavandhoo. The domestic flight to Dharavandhoo or Hanimaadhoo can be directly booked from us for the same price. Drift diving, reefs and Thilas with big fishes, soft and hard coral gardens, and night diving.

General diving information

Nitrox is mandatory and all guests must be certified to dive 30 meters. A minimum of 100 open water dives is expected. The trips consist mainly of drift dives and each dive site has an average depth of 25-30 meters. If you are not certified for Nitrox at the beginning of the safari, you can take the courses on board with an experienced english speaking diving instructor.

For safety reasons we do not offer air fills and we are very strict on dive safety and well maintened and full dive equipment. In addition to the usual diving equipment, every diving guest must carry a cutting tool, buoy with reel, diving lamp, alarm whistle, compass and a dive computer and carry them on every dive.

Guests will be picked up by the crew at 2:00 p.m. and also at 3:30 p.m. at counter 14 of the airport. During the crossing to the liveaboard, the diving equipment is unpacked and set up.

Guests are asked to leave the ship at 7 a.m. for check-out. The transfer to the airport by the diving dhoni starts at 06:55 am in the morning. We do not offer a late check out.

Everything was just excellent. Ordnung must sien! And it was everywhere. Living, diving, rest, meals... Owners and crew are very professional and friendly. Recommended? Yes, for sure! The North Maldives are impressive. During the week we met no other divers. May be not so many small creatures but many sharks and mantas. If you want to take many photos, take a good light: transparency not so good because of plankton.
