Description
Boat
Damai I was built in Tanjung Bira, South Sulawesi, by Pak Hadji Baso, the most prestigious builder in the area in 2009. The collaboration of traditional skills with years of experience in the Indonesian liveaboard diving industry has created a remarkable vessel.
Damai I have been designed to offer a personal service dedicated to small groups. With an overall length of 40 meters and a beam of over 8 meters. It offer large area for everyone have more than enough spaces to relax.
The vessel has been designed with three large deck areas for relaxing in sun or shade and enjoying rejuvenating massage and spa treatments.
The bridge deck has a sun deck at the front with chaises longues and cushioned benches as well as a partially shaded deck at the aft with sofas.
Damai I has specifically designed for divers, the vessel offers large dive stations with individual rinse tanks and a camera room with separate camera work stations with integrated 110v and 220v charging station for each photographer.
There are 2 custom designed high speed tender boats used to transfer guests to and from the dive site safely and comfortably. Behind every detail is our objective to ensure the best service and diving experience for our guests.
Damai I also can offer luxurious charter for groups, and will offer you the chance to select the route you prefer to do, we will tailor make the trip. The advantages are multiple: the chance to stay as long as you want in one spot without having to be worried about the preferences of the rest of the customers is an obvious one.
Cabin
Damai I has 7 guest cabins, it can welcome up to 14 guests per trip:
Cabin 1 - Deluxe Cabin:
Located on the lower deck, at 22 sqm. This room can be configured with a double bed (180 x 200cm) or two single beds (90 x 200cm). It has a desk and a wardrobe, three reading lights and a bed side table. The room is fully air-conditioned and has en-suite facilities, where the shower has a dividing glass door.
Cabin 2 - Deluxe Cabin:
Located on the lower deck, at 16 sqm. This room is configured with a double bed (160 x 200cm), a desk and a wardrobe. There are two reading lights and a bed side table. The room is fully air-conditioned and has en-suite facilities, where the shower place has a dividing glass door.
Cabin 3 - Deluxe Cabin:
Located on the lower deck, at 22 sqm. This room can be configured with a double bed (180 x 200cm) or two single beds (90 x 200cm). It has a desk, a wardrobe, three reading lights and a bed side table. The room is fully air-conditioned and has en-suite facilities, where the shower has a dividing glass door.
Cabin 4 - Deluxe Cabin:
Located on the lower deck, at 18 sqm. This room is configured with a double bed (160 x 200cm), a desk and a wardrobe. There are two reading lights and a bed side table. The room is fully air-conditioned and has en-suite facilities, where the shower place has a dividing glass door.
Cabin 5 - Master Cabin:
Located on the lower deck, at a massive 40 sqm. This room can have a king sized bed (240x200) or two large single beds (120x200). There are 2 writing desks, 2 wardrobes, 2 bed side tables and four reading lights. This room is fully air-conditioned, has a panoramic ocean views and en-suite facilities where there's a separate shower and toilet.
Cabin 6 - Master Cabin:
Located on the main deck, at 35 sqm in floor area. It has a king sized bed (240x200cm) or two large single beds (120x200cm), 2 desks, 2 bed side tables and reading lights. It also has a direct access to a private balcony that is about 15 sqm in size. Inside the cabins, the en-suite shower and toilet facilities are decided into two compartments. The room is fully air-conditioned.
Cabin 7 - Deluxe Double Cabin:
Located on the upper deck, 15 sqm in size, can be configured with a king double (220cm x 200cm) or twin beds (110x200cm). In the cabin, there is a desk, in-room sink unit and en-suite combined toilet and shower facilities. Its fully air conditioned and is located on the upper deck with direct access to the sun decks.
Diving
- Unlimited dives (as per request / schedule permitting)
- No dive provided on the day of arrival and departure.
- Only 1 - 2 dives will be provided on the last diving day.
- All diving will provide experienced guide to lead the dive.
- Dive group will be no more than 4 divers per dive guide.

Itineraries
Alor
Departing from Maumere or Kupang, our 7-10-night trips not only take you through the wonders of the Pantar Strait but to lesser dived areas including Rusa, Adonara and Serbete. These regions include unique habitats, coral reefs, pelagic action, macro critter spotting and the opportunity for island visits.
Banda Sea
Damai I and Damai II liveaboards offer multiple dates departing out of Ambon to visit these pristine reefs and cruise in luxury on seas of indescribable beauty and biodiversity. We also combine dives in the Banda Sea within our Forgotten Islands, Alor and Raja Ampat itineraries.
Bali
Liveaboard diving in Bali on Damai I or Damai II is included within our Sumbawa and Komodo itineraries. Diving around Bali caters to both wide angle and macro enthusiasts. North and East island coasts boast year-round macro subjects, while off the coast of Tulamben lies the USAT Liberty (one of the world’s most famous shipwrecks) with its fair share of wide-angle delights. Year-round reef manta ray sightings and an annual mola mola season are only a short boat-ride south to the island of Nusa Penida.
Cendrawasih Bay
DAMAI liveaboard trips to Cenderawasih Bay are a unique way to spend hours diving or snorkelling with whalesharks around the local fishing platforms. Damai I liveaboard offers a short season of trips out of Biak which concentrate on the inner and outer bay or combine dives in Cenderawasih with Raja Ampat itineraries.
Komodo
Damai I and Damai II liveaboards offer dates throughout the year to visit this iconic National Park. Charters depart from Bima in Sumbawa and Labuanbajo in Flores. DIVE DAMAI can also combine this itinerary with diving in Bali or Alor.
Raja Ampat
Damai I and Damai II run luxury liveaboard charters out of Sorong for comfortable exploration of this majestic region. For a complete Papuan diving experience this itinerary can be combined with destinations such as Trition Bay and Cenderawasih Bay.
The Forgotten Islands
Damai I and Damai II liveaboards offer multiple dates departing from Maumere, Kupang, Saumlaki or Ambon to suit your travel desires. DIVE DAMAI also combines dives in the Forgotten Islands with our Alor and Banda Sea itineraries.
Triton Bay
DAMAI liveaboard trips to Triton Bay explore the entire region. In the north is Namatote island, a great place to search for the elusive leopard shrimp on the colonial anemones. In the south is the current-rich Aiduma Strait with the iconic soft coral-covered dive site, Little Komodo. Further south is the clearer water surrounding the island of Dramai and dive site, Batu Jeruk, appropriately named for its thick covering of bright orange soft corals.
Gorontalo
Gorontalo, being one of Indonesia’s lesser-dived areas, has excellent macro sites scattered around the mouth of the river, and steep walls famous for their exceptional Petrosia lignose (Salvador Dali sponge). Gorontalo liveaboard trips travel south to the Togean Islands nestled in the Gulf of Tomini. Join the comfort of Damai II liveaboard on this diverse and rarely visited itinerary.
Halmahera
North of the Banda Sea and west of the world-famous Raja Ampat lies this underpopulated island and its neighbouring archipelago of volcanoes, sandy beaches, and mangroves. Damai I and Damai II liveaboards combine dives in Halmahera within our Raja Ampat itineraries.
Kalimantan
DIVE DAMA I trips to this region focus on a select few islands, each providing its own unique experience. Sangalaki island is world-famous for its manta feeding station and beach nesting grounds where turtles come every evening to lay their eggs. The Jellyfish lake in Kakaban is the most spectacular in Indonesia with thousands of poison-less jellies. Maratua island can surprise any diver with its massive school of barracuda, and leopard sharks found resting in the shallow lagoon. With a bit of luck, divers can encounter thresher sharks and giant marble rays in Muaras, and have close interaction with whale sharks in Talisayan. Macro lovers will glory in the diversity of bizarre critters in Derawan island.

Useful information
Alor
Best time for diving
April to November, as this is when both visibility and weather are at their best, while September is the best time to spot Mola Mola. The currents usually are strongest in October and November, making conditions more challenging. From late December until early March, Alor is usually considered as off-season due to the rainy season.
About temperatures
Air : winter months are between 26°C - 29°C, summer months are between 27°C - 32°C.
Sea : between 25°C - 27°C from March to April & October to November, between 27°C - 30°C from May to September. Thermoclines are common year round, the water can drop at times to 22°C or lower.
Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 5 mm full wetsuit. If you get cold easily, we recommend also bring gloves and a hood, or even a 7 mm full wetsuit.
Diver requirement
Suitable for all levels of diver from beginners to experienced. However, in the open blue, the current can be strong at times, so divers should to be comfortable with their skills. Embarkation / Disembarkation
Alor liveaboard trips are usually from Maumere to Maumere, guests need to fly to Maumere airport (MOF).
However, some liveaboards often combine Alor with other destinations like Komodo, Banda Sea, Raja Ampat. Then you might only need to arrive or depart from Maumere.

Bali and Lombok
Best time for diving
May to October is usually considered to be the best time. The best season for seeing the Mola Mola is from August to October.
Diving can be a little bit tricky as divers will be expecting sudden unpredictable current which sometimes can be very strong.
About temperatures
Air : year round temperatures average 29°C - 32°C, May is usually the hottest month in Bali with an average temperature of 29°C, the coldest is January average at 26°C.
Sea : vary from location to location, around Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida is generally 25°C - 26°C (except during mola mola season - it can drop to 19°C - 21°C), while the north coast are balmy 27°C - 30°C year round.
Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 3 - 5 mm full wetsuit.

So the embarkation and disembarkation can be both in Bali (Ngurah Rai International Airport - DPS), or from Bali to Labuan Bajo (Komodo International Airport - LBJ) or reverse.

Triton Bay
Best time for diving
November to April, most liveaboards visit Triton Bay during the Raja Ampat diving season, as from June the winds and rain can cause unpleasant sea conditions. However, rain is possible in West Papua anytime, not just in rainy season.
Some sites are subject to strong currents here, and the visibility in Triton Bay might change abruptly. Rarely exceeding 20 meters, it can lower to less than 10 meters, especially after a lot of raining in Triton Bay. Most of diving is shallow dives, no more than 35 meters.

Air : generally ranges between 25°C - 31°C year-round.
Sea : averaging around 26°C - 27°C from May to October, 29°C - 30°C from November to April.
Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 3 mm full wetsuit for November to April, a 5 mm full wetsuit for May to October.
Diver requirement

The nearby airport is Kaimana airport (KNG) in West Papua. However, liveaboards may utilize different ports depends on the itinerary, as often liveaboard trips will combine Triton Bay with other destinations like Raja Ampat, Banda Sea, so please ask our agent to know the exact port for your trip.

Raja Ampat
Best time for diving
Mid October to April, the wind then picks up in May until the end of August, causing rougher seas and this means Misool area in the south will be shut from June to September. From July until September the diving in the north still can be enjoyable. The visibility can vary from 10 - 30 meters, current can be from mild to strong at times.
About temperatures
Air : fairly constant between 25°C - 31°C year-round.
Sea : it is warm all year round, about 27°C - 31°C
Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 3 mm full wetsuit throughout the year.
Diver requirement

Few liveaboards also departs from Waisai (RJM).

Halmahera
Best time for diving
October to November and March to May, Halmahera can be dived all year round, but due to the monsoon season, from June to September it can be windy and the sea can be rough. And from December to February is considered as the rainy season.
Visibility is usually very good, ranging from 20-30 meters, Inside the bays the visibility may be less. Currents can be strong in the straits, weak in the areas protected by the islands.

Depending on which itinerary you choose, the embarkation / disembarkation can be in Bitung > Manado (MDC), Ternate (TTE), Bacan (LAH/WUB), or Morotai (OTI). The international airport with the best connections is Jakarta (CGK). You can also route through Bali (DPS) if you prefer.

Komodo
Best time for diving
May to October, the weather in Komodo is at its best between April and November. During the wet season (December to March) the weather can get a bit windy, with heavy quick rains, sometimes can cause rough surface conditions. However, liveaboards run trips here year-round.
The visibility in the North is excellent at 30 meters or even more, while it ranges between 10-15 meters in the South.
Some dive sites can have significant currents, whirlpools and see downdrafts. Sea conditions might change very quickly. Other dive sites are more quiet and rich in macro, especially in the South.
About temperatures
Air : range between 23°C - 32°C year-round.
Sea : in the North Komodo it can be around 26°C -27°C, while it gets colder towards the south where it can drop down to 22 ° C.
Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 5 mm full wetsuit throughout the year for Komodo area.
Diver requirement
Intermediate to Advanced level, A good level in diving and some experience in drift diving are recommended to participate to Komodo cruise.

Best time for diving
April to October during the dry season, although the Derawan Islands is possible to dive year-round. And the islands receive consistent rainfall throughout the year. If you want to have the best chance to see manta rays, then try the beginning of the rainy season around November or December. The visibility is usually between 10 - 40 meters, with mild to medium currents.

Sea : it is warm all year round, about 27°C - 30°C
Wetsuit Recommendation

Cenderawasih Bay
Best time for diving
Mid June to early November, diving is possible year-round, the plankton bloom usually happens between September and early April which attract the whale sharks even more, but you can see them in the bay year round. Liveaboards usually offer trips in Cenderawasih bay when other Indonesian sites are affected by inclement weather between June to October. Visibility can be between 10 - 35 meters here with mild currents.

Depending on which itinerary you choose, the embarkation / disembarkation can be in Manokwari (MKW), Nabire (NBX), Biak (BIK). The international airport with the best connections is Jakarta (CGK).
However, some liveaboard trips will combine Cenderawasih bay with other destinations like Raja Ampat, then the embarkation and disembarkation will be different. So please ask our agent to know the exact port for your trip.
Visa Requirements
Indonesia offers a free visa on arrival service for many nationalities which allows visitors to stay in the country for up to 30 days. A list of countries that are eligible for visa on arrival can be found on the Indonesian Government's Directorate General of Immigration.
Please note: Immigration officials in Indonesia may ask for proof of onward travel (e.g. a return or onward air ticket).
Vaccinations
Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers over the age of 9 months arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.
Money Matters
The local currency is Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), all liveaboards accept cash payments in USD.
Rupiah can be purchased from all major banks and exchange outlets. Credit and debit cards are also accepted in major hotels, restaurants & shops.

Banda Sea
Best time for diving
October to November & March to April, the seas are generally calmer during these months and in October to November there is higher chance to see hammerhead sharks. From May to August the surface conditions can get quite rough.
The visibility is generally good to excellent in Banda Sea areas, except in Ambon bay and in other bays for critter dives. Currents are low to moderate on most of the sites, however, strong currents may occur at times.
About temperatures
Air : range between 25°C - 31°C year-round.
Sea : range between 26°C - 29°C year-round.
Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 3 - 5 mm full wetsuit throughout the year.
Diver requirement
