Description

Boat

Duke of York was built and launched in the Maldives in 2010. Measuring 36 meters in lenght and 11 meters in width, it can cruises at 9 knots per hour, onboard there are 220v and 110v power supply. It is the ideal boat if you want to cruise in luxury and use your rebreather!

Duke of York combining the skills of local naval architects and engineers and quality standards, this yacht is the ideal solution for a fantastic sea adventure in the Maldives that is also a holiday dedicated to wellness and relaxation in a comfortable environment.

Duke of York boasts 4 levels with indoor parquet flooring and teak on the main deck, is accompanied by a comfortable DHONI used for diving, snorkeling, fishing, marine activities and to land on sand banks/desert islands. Along with the more traditional diving techniques we are able to offer cruises with the assistance and material to dive with rebreathers!

The large air-conditioned indoor saloon has a bar offering a wide choice of soft drinks and spirits and 2 comfortable sofas, which become a meeting and relaxing place for those wishing to listen to music, watch a movie or read a book. Occasionally, for special evenings, thanks to its Dolby Surround TV-Stereo system the saloon even turns into a dancefloor. There is also a recharging area for cameras with 220v electricity.

The very spacious outdoor dining area (aft of first deck) is furnished with tables and chairs made of quality wood and can easily accommodate 24 guests. The area is wholly shaded and can be covered to allow outdoor dining even in case of rain. Meals are served as buffets and menu include dishes from the International, Italian and Maldivian cuisine, mainly prepared with fresh fish, although our chefs are always ready to satisfy any of our guests specific needs.

Duke of York also have open-air spaces over the three decks and offer large areas furnished with sun loungers, cushions and sun mats, both in the shade and in the sun. The decks allow guests to enjoy the breathtaking Maldivian scenery, both when sailing and while relaxing when the yacht is moored in the lagoons for the night.

The spa center located on the upper deck and it is specialized in Ayurveda treatments. A masseur is always on board. This ancient therapy, dating back over 6,000 years, will purify you from the toxins which are obstructing your energy channels, while natural oil- and herb-based massages will relax both your mind and your body.

In addition, all diving is done from the dive dhoni boat, which provide comfort and function at the same time. All the equipment stay in the dive dhoni (compressors, tanks etc.) in order to keep the noise away from the main boat when filling the tanks.


Cabin

Duke of York featuring 11 spacious guest cabins, it can welcome 21 guests :

All cabins feature independently adjustable air conditioning, ensuite bathroom, WiFi system, reading light etc.

Located on the upper deck, each cabin comes with two single beds side by side, large glass windows.

1 Suite Cabin (#12):
Located on the upper deck, this cabin comes with a double bed, upon request, it can be converted into two single beds side by side, large glass windows.

1 Deluxe Twin Cabin (#9):
Located on the main deck, this cabin comes with two single beds side by side, large glass windows.

4 Standard Double cabins (#1, 2, 7, 8):
Located on the lower deck, each cabin comes with one double bed and one single bed side by side, portholes.

2 Standard Twin cabins (#3, 6):
Located on the lower deck, each cabin comes with two single beds side by side, portholes.

1 Single cabin (#4):
Located on the lower deck, this cabin comes with one double bed and one single bed in bunk style, portholes.


Diving

Itineraries

Extreme North - From Male to Haa

10-days or 2-week safari starting and ending at Hulumale / Malè.
We start our cruise north-westward, mooring for the night in Rasfari Lagoon. The morning after we dive the oceanic reef of the Island and afterwards we keep cruising northward to reach Baa Atoll. Here we will find very peculiar dive sites characterized by the abundance of any kind of hard and soft corals. But the highlight of the atoll is Hanifaru Lagoon. From May to November, an exceptional concentration of kreel attracts hundreds of mantas for feeding and often some whale sharks also feed among them. We keep cruising north-eastward to reach Lhaviyani Atoll, whose shape and particular position features oceanic channel dives either on the east and on the west side, giving us the chance to dive with “in-coming currents” in both monsoon seasons to spot any kind of pelagic fish including grey reef sharks. During summer time, the marine protected area of Fushifaru Thila becomes a spectacular manta point. But the cruise will go farther north across Noonu and Shaviyani atolls, vast areas only recently open to tourism with lots of dive sites to discover! Beautiful Thilas with overhangs and caves, soft corals, eagle rays, giant groupers and occasionally grey reef sharks. Throughout the cruise it will be possible to visit fishing villages and beautiful uninhabited islands.


CENTRAL ATOLLS

A two weeks trip with stays on the central atolls - North and South Male, Rasdhoo, Ari - with the opportunity of sighting sharks and manta rays on the various diving points, while travelling East-West through the archipelago. Heading towards Rasdhoo and diving in Rasdhoo-Madivaru, in search for hammerhead sharks. Navigation will then proceed towards North Ari, and, crossing the atoll lengthwise, we will touch the most beautiful and rich in life thilas of the Maldives, searching for whale sharks. Frequent landings on desert islands, beaches and fishermen’s islands, are one of the reasons for which those who really know the Maldives appreciate this cruise. We will head back to the eastern edge, navigating through South Male, with a stop at Guraidhoo.


THE NORTH | North Malè - Lhaviyani

One week safari, starting and ending at Hulumale /Malè. We start our cruise northward and according to the season we will moor for the night on the eastern or western edge of the Atoll. Male North Atoll has beautiful dives in “thilas” which are covered with soft corals and are home to many different kind of reef fish in big schools. According to the seasonal monsoon, both sides of the atoll offer terrific manta points, where there always are good chances to spot manta rays on cleaning stations all year round. We keep cruising towards Lhaviyani Atoll passing through the small Gaafaru Atoll, renowned for its wrecks (Lady Christine, Erlangen, SS Seagull). The shape and the peculiar position of Lhaviyani Atoll features oceanic channel dives either on the east and on the west side, giving us the chance to dive with “in-coming currents” in both monsoon Seasons to spot any kind of pelagic fish, including grey reef sharks. During summer time the beautiful marine protected area of Fushifaru Thilas attract many manta rays. There will be stops at unspoiled local fishing villages where it will be possible to experience the real rhythm of Maldivian life. Upon return to North Male, on the second last day it will be possible to visit the city of Malè.


CENTRAL ATOLLS | North & South Male, Felidhoo, Vattaru, Mulaku, South Ari

A cruise that will reveal six different atolls (North & South Male, Felidhoo, Vattaru, Mulaku, South Ari), departure and return from/to Hulhule airport island. Heading South straight away, sailing within the Eastern edge channels, among which Emboodhoo Kandu, Cocoa and Guraidhoo Kandu, Devana Kandu, Fotteyo, Rakeedho Corner, Vattaru and Mulaku Kandu. From here we’ll cruise the inner portion of the atoll heading to the Southern edge of Ari Atoll, where we will attempt the famous whale shark watching at Maamigili ocean reef. We will then sail northwards through the atoll, without neglecting beaches, desert islands, sandbanks. After the must-see destinations -the most famous thilas, we head back to North Male. On second to last day it will be possible to visit the Capital, Male.


EXTREME SOUTH

Departure from the Hulule/Male airport, two-weeks sailing through South Male, Felidhoo, Vattaru, Mulaku, Thaa and Laamu to the atoll of Huvadhoo (Suvadiva), which can only be reached with favourable weather conditions (mid-winter). The destinations included in this trip will satisfy all those who wish to visit remote places far from the more commercial destinations. Fun will be guaranteed for both snorkelers and divers (but fishing enthusiasts too), by the beautiful and extremely diversified landscapes: channels, desert islands, sandbanks, islands inhabited by friendly and spontaneous people, trail bait fishing.. all these elements will give you unforgettable memories. On the last day departure from the national airport of Kadeddhoo to Male.

Best time for diving
December to April, Central Maldives is suitable for diving year-round, these months are the Northeast dry season, and it's the time for best visibility and weather condition.
The visibility range between 20 - 40 meters year-round. And the currents are usually mild to intermediate. Diving depth range from 10 - 40 meters.

About temperatures
Air : range between 27°C - 32°C year-round.
Sea : very stable and warm, range from 28°C - 30°C year-round.

Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a dive Skin or 3 mm wetsuit throughout the year.

Diver requirement
Suitable for all levels, but to enjoy the best out of it, we recommend an AOW level with 30 dives.

North Maldives

Best time for diving
June to November, North Maldives offers great diving all year, especially in the Far North Atolls, you can expect sunny skies most of the year. And in Hanifaru Bay, each year during June to November is the famous cyclone feeding, which is a rare and spectacular event where over 100 manta rays can feed together and create a chain which the head of each manta ray touches the tail of the manta in front. This creates a huge spiral of up to 200 mantas along with their fellow plankton feeders the Whale Shark.

Sea : very stable and warm, range from 27°C - 29°C year-round.

Wetsuit Recommendation

Best time for diving
December to April offers the best visibility and sea conditions. Although short spells of heavy rainfall can be experienced during the summer months, but this region do offer good diving all year round.

Air : range between 28°C - 32°C year-round.
Sea : very stable and warm, range from 27°C - 29°C year-round.

Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a dive Skin or 3 mm wetsuit throughout the year.

Diver requirement
Suitable for divers have AOW level with good drift diving experience, as there can be strong currents in the channels surrounding the islands.

For the Deep South Atolls (Laamu atoll, Gaafu Alifu atoll, Huvadhoo atoll, Fuvahmulah, Addu atoll), domestic flights are usually required to Addu atoll (GAN), Gaafu Alifu atoll (GKK), Huvadhoo atoll (KDM) or Fuvahmulah (FVM). Longer trips like 2 weeks might depart or return to Male.
