Description

Boat

Spirit of Niugini is a 36 meters long, 6 meters long newly refurbished dive liveaboard, it started operation in March of 2007, guests will find complete facilities for the serious and discerning divers ranging from roomy dive decks to an easily accessible dive-platform.

Spirit of Niugini is the roomiest dive boat in PNG, with an indoor louge, a shaded outdoor area on the top deck and a sun deck. It is crewed by experienced local staff and its operations managed by people with extensive experience in cruise ship and hotel management who are divers themselves.

Spirit of Niugini has a thoughtfully laid out dive deck onboard, provide spacious dressing and individual storage areas. The twin staircases that lead down to the diving platform are easy to negotiate and make your dive entry easy. At the end of each dive, divers are treated with hot towels. Four fresh water showers and a head are conveniently located on the dive deck and dive platform.

Diving activities on board are supported by two electric Bauer air-compressors, a 4500-PSI air bank storage system and hyperfiltration system producing grade "D" breathing air with 4 fill hoses and two 4.70-meter R.I.Bs with 40 H.P outboards. Nitrox, through a DNAx system (32% 02Mix), is available as an option to qualified divers.

Spirit of Niugini staff members are certified to carry out first-aid treatment and the vessel carries comprehensive first-aid facilities including DAN approved oxygen kits. SSB radio, cellular and satellite telephone systems ensure the vessel is in permanent contact with mainland emergency service.


Cabin

Spirit of Niugini has 8 air-conditioned cabins that offers accommodation for 16 guests per trip.

All cabins are equppied with individual A/C unites, ensuite bathroom, wardrobe, reading lights, hair dryer, Plenty of storage space, outlet (220V).

2 Deluxe Double Cabins:
Located on the main deck, each cabin comes with one double bed, seaview windows.

2 Deluse Twin Cabins:
Located on the main deck, each cabin comes with twin single beds side by side, seaview windows.

4 Standard Twin Cabins:
Located on the lower deck, each cabin comes with two single beds in "L" bunk shape, portholes.


Diving

  • 3 to 4 dives per day, include sunset / night dives.

  • No dive provided on the day of arrival or departure.

  • Only 2 dives will be provided on the day before departure.

  • All diving will provide expericed guide to lead the dive.

Itineraries

Aboard the Spirit of Niugini we try and explore every corner of Milne Bay. The province consists of a large cluster of islands on the eastern tip of Papua New Guinea. The islands that we venture out to explore are made up of the Conflict Group, Samarai and the D’Entrecasteaux Group. consist of the large islands of Normanby, Fergusson, and Goodenough and some of the much smaller islands of Sanaroa, Watoa, Nuakata and Duchess. These islands are known for their pristine reefs, coral pinnacles and elaborate soft corals. The fish life is abundant and varied from schools of fish in shallow waters complimented by the marauding pelagics.

Each area offers a totally unique and refreshing diving experience, you’ll be spoiled for choice and lucky to be among the few explorers to ever venture here. Below is a list of the itineraries that the Spirit of Niugini covers. All starting and finishing at Tawali Resort.


9 days / 8 nights (6.5 diving days) Southern Areas

1. Tawali - Conflicts Group, Samari, Nuakata, North East Coast Coral Reefs - Tawali
2. Tawali - East Cape - Nuwakata Island - Furguson Island -Normanby Island, North East Coast Coral Reefs - Tawali
3. Tawali - Samari - Nuakata Island - Dutchess, North East Coast Coral Reefs-Tawali

Day 1:
Pick-up from Alotau airport and transfer to Tawali. Upon arrival board the Spirit of Niugini. Sail to East Cape islands 1 tank dive in the afternoon.

Day 2 & 3:
Nuwakata Islands.8 dives then cruise overnight to the Conflicts Islands.

Day 4 & 5:
Conflicts Islands. 8 dives then cruise overnight to Basilaki/Engineers Islands.

Day 6 to 8:
Engineers/Basilaki Islands and Samarai Islands Area: 10 dives then head to Alotau over night on the boat.

Day 9:
Disembark and transfer to the airport.


10 days / 9 nights (7.5 diving days) Northern Areas

1. Tawali - Conflicts Group, Samari, Nuakata, North East Coast Coral Reefs - Tawali
2. Tawali - East Cape - Nuwakata Island - Furguson Island -Normanby Island, North East Coast Coral Reefs - Tawali

Day 1:
Pick-up from Alotau airport and transfer to Tawali, in the morning, upon arrival board the Spirit of Niugini. Cruise to East Cape islands 1 afternoon dive.

Day 2 & 3:
Nuwakata Islands 8 dives, cruise to Wampas Island

Day 4:
Wampas Island, 4 dives

Day 5 & 6:
Observation Point to Esa’ala up to Wongs Dive Site, Ferguson Island. 8 dives

Day 7 & 8:
Berthue, Twin Tower, to Lawadi down to Coral Garden. 8 dives.

Day 9:
Sponge Heaven/ Wahoo point for 2 or 3 dives, then cruise and overnight at Alotau.

Day 10:
Disembark and transfer to the airport.

Useful information

Papua New Guinea

Period : Liveaboards trip can be offered year round. With the high season generally from May to November.

Visa's : For some nationalities A visa (valid for 60 days, also known as'Easy Visitor Permit') can be obtained upon arrival.

  • But it is recommended to get a visa before arriving, and allow at least 15 working days for your application to be processed and returned.
  • If you live in a country that does not have a Papua New Guinean embassy or consulate, you may be able to apply for a PNG visa in advance at an Australian or British embassy.

Climat : Warm to hot and humid throughout the year. The rainy season varies from province to province however in general it is driest from May to December.In Port Moresby the wet season is December to April, and the dry season is from May to November. Average daily temperature range is 26 to 30°C (At night will be cooler).

Water : The average water temperature varies from 25°C along the edge of the Coral Sea to 29°C in the Bismarck Sea.

Clothing : light and casual clothing but not too brief in public places. Swimwear is not permitted in the public areas of hotels.

Plugs : Type I Australian plug, 240V @ 50Hz

Flights : Jacksons International Airport is the major international airport in Papua New Guinea, located 5 miles from Port Moresby. There are serval Airlines offer flights from Cairns, Sydney, and Brisbane, Australia; Honiara, Solomon Islands; Manila, Philippines; Tokyo(Narita), Japan; Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.

Currency : The currency of Papua New Guinea is the Kina. Travelers cheques and international credit cards are accepted in major hotels and restaurants but not generally in the small towns.
