Description

The Boat

Alila Purnama translated as “Full Moon”, is a luxurious liveaboard Phinisi ship custom-made from teak, rattan and other locally sourced materials from Indonesia, it offering expeditions to some of the most spectacular regions of the Indonesian archipelago.

Handcrafted in the traditional style of a Phinisi, as used by the Bugis seafarers from south Sulawesi in Indonesia, measuring 46-metre-long, 10-meter-wide, with 650HP MAN engines, it cruises at 10 knots per hour.

Alila Purnama's onboard facilities is to ensure boundless space for guests to unwind and relax in luxury. There is a library, lounge, bar, indoor dining area seating up to 10 persons and plenty of space outside to unwind and enjoy the views. The boat is also equipped with satellite WiFi access, enabling guests to upload their trip photos on a daily basis.

Guests are able to dine at leisure in the air- conditioned dining room or on the outdoor deck. Meals and an extensive list of non-alcohoolic beverages are all-inclusive while alcoholic beverages including wines, beers and cocktails are available for an additional charge.

The main outdoor deck has large oversized daybeds shaded by umbrellas – perfect for relaxing day or night and enjoying the fresh sea breezes. With a spa therapist aboard the vessel, guests can succumb to the soothing pleasures of a signature Alila massage onboard or on a nearby beach to benefits in the appearance, the spirit and overall sense of wellbeing.

Alila Purnama has its own fully licensed PADI dive centre catering to qualified divers. Development courses offered onboard range from Advanced Open Water Diver to over 16 specialties courses. There is plenty of equipment for all guests onboard as well as a dedicated freshwater rinse tank for camera equipment.

For those with a taste for adventure, yoga, snorkeling, sea kayaking, stand up paddle boards, visiting local islands and pearl farms, a picnic lunch or BBQ dinner on the beach... are among the many other pursuits on offer.


Cabins

Alila Purnama has 5 elegant, ultra-modern guest cabins, it can only accommodate 10 guests per trip:

All cabins provide Spa Alila amenities that include sunblock, after-sun cooling gel, mosquito repellent and face spritzer, shampoo, shower gel, hair conditioner etc.

1 Master Suite - Sriwijaya :
Located on the upper deck, room size: 40sqm, this cabin comes with a queen size double bed, a private balcony and large sundeck with daybed and deckchairs, 180 degree wrap around windows, mini bar with fridge, coffee machine, audio and visual systems, air conditioner, large double wardrobes. Its ensuite bathroomo features a shower, bathtub, two washbasins and an enclosed separate toilet.

2 Deluxe Suites - Cirebon & Madura :
Located on the lower deck, room size: 17.8sqm, each cabin comes with one queen size double bed or two single beds side by side, a writing desk, audio systems, air conditioner, separate shower and toilet, and two portholes (openable).

2 Deluxe Suites - Bali & Jawa :
Located on the lower deck, room size: 16.9sqm, each cabin comes with one queen size double bed, a writing desk, audio systems, air conditioner, separate shower and toilet, and two portholes (openable).


Diving

Itineraries

Alila Purnama is is available for individual suite reservations. Each booking is for up to two persons sharing a suite, based on the seasonal itineraries. Private Charters on Alila Purnama are available for year round sailing tailored to guests’ preferred activities and sailing duration. Private Charters are for 2 - 10 guests and subject to availability and our seasonal destination locations.

Raja Ampat Expedition - 7D/6N

January - March & November - March

Day 1 : You will meet by the Alila Purnama crew at Sorong airport, then transferred by car and speedboat to the vessel. The cruise director will familiarise you with the vessel and its safety procedures, then we cast off and cruise into the Dampier Strait, we will stop at Kri Island, you can begin immediately with an afternoon check dive, we will then cruise until Gam Island giving you plenty of time to ease into life onboard.

Day 2 : After breakfast you will dive in Gam Island, or you can stay onboard and luxuriate with a pampering spa treatment. During the afternoon we will explore the other side of Gam Island, by the evening we will set sail northwaards, cruising through the night and crossing the Equator.

Day 3 : Wake up in the Northern Hemisphere - Wayag Island. You can pick from an array of different activities, in the evening, our crew will prepare a BBQ on the beach then we will set sail southwards.

Day 4 : Today begins in Sel Pele Bay located on the western side of Waigeo Island, aside diving, we will have the chance to visit the Atlas South Sea Pearl Farm in the island's Aljuy Bay.

Day 5 : You will wake up at Jef Fam Island, enjoying diving all day, in the afternoon the crew will whisk you off in the speedboat for an exciting cruise around the island.

Day 6 : Today we will discover the Mansuar Island, visiting manta rays.. in the afternoon the crew will escort you on shore to visit a local village, in the evening, we will begin to cruise towards Sorong.

Day 7 : After a leisurely breakfast, the crew will escort you until Sorong airport.


Cendrawasih Bay - 7D/6N

Day 1 : Arrive Manokwari, transffered by car and speedboat to the vessel.
Day 2 : We will visit Biak Island, wreck diving day !
Day 3 : Visit Purup Island - diving all day!
Day 4 : Visit the area of Kwatisore, home to the Majestic Whale Sharks and Blue Shark.
Day 5 : Visit Ripon Island, meet big Whales, dugongs, reef sharks and shooling fishes.
Day 6 : Visit Wairundi Island, see the abundance of soft corals and hard corals, marco dive!
Day 7 : After a leisurely breakfast, the crew will escort you until Manokwari airport.


Komodo Island Expedition - 7D/6N

Day 1 : You will meet by the Alila Purnama crew at Labuan Bajo airport, then transferred by car and speedboat to the vessel. The cruise director will familiarise you with the vessel and its safety procedures, then we set sail for Sabalon Island, during the night boat will anchor at Gililawa Laut.

Day 2 : We will diving all day in the northern islands - Gililawa Laut with mantas, dolphins..

Day 3 : Wake up in Banta Island. You can pick from an array of different activities.

Day 4 : In the morning, we will go to visit the Komodo Gragons, then take a walk around the park guided by experienced rangers. Later in the morning, we will sail to a world famous Pink Beach, where you can spend the rest of the day in the water or relaxing on the beach.

Day 5 : You will wake up at Padar Island, enjoying diving all day.

Day 6 : Today we will discover the Batu Muncul, where you can laze away the day at your leisure, superb for diving and snorkelling. End of the day with an unforgettable BBQ under the star.

Day 7 : In the morning, we will set sail for Labuan Bajo, afater breakfast, you will be transferred to Labaun Bajo airport.


Banda Sea - 11D/10N

Maumere - Ambon or Ambon - Maumere :
Travel along the Nusa Tenggara Islands from Maumere to Ambon/ Ambon to Maumere. This incredible 10 night/ 11 day voyage sails across the Flores Sea to Banda Sea, famous for the significance during the spice trade. Visited areas: Ambon, Nusa Laut, Banda Neira, Nil Desperandum, Romang & Terbang, Wetar Islands, Alor Strait, Lembata Island, Komba Island, Maumere. Guests are able to unwind whilst being witness to the spectacular images of the vast volcanic region cloaked in tropical rainforest; the underwater scenery is just as beautiful with amazing diverse underwater life due to the volcanic chain in which lies both above and below the water’s surface.

Ambon - Raja Ampat or Raja Ampat - Ambon :
This expedition offers some of the most pristine conditions from the cooler waters south including schools or hammerhead sharks, giant trevally, whales and an abundance of schooling fish varieties. The trip will take you to some breathtaking locations including Nusa Laut, Koon, Misool and the Dampier Strait.

Useful information

Alor

Best time for diving
April to November, as this is when both visibility and weather are at their best, while September is the best time to spot Mola Mola. The currents usually are strongest in October and November, making conditions more challenging. From late December until early March, Alor is usually considered as off-season due to the rainy season.

About temperatures
Air : winter months are between 26°C - 29°C, summer months are between 27°C - 32°C.
Sea : between 25°C - 27°C from March to April & October to November, between 27°C - 30°C from May to September. Thermoclines are common year round, the water can drop at times to 22°C or lower.

Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 5 mm full wetsuit. If you get cold easily, we recommend also bring gloves and a hood, or even a 7 mm full wetsuit.

Diver requirement
Suitable for all levels of diver from beginners to experienced. However, in the open blue, the current can be strong at times, so divers should to be comfortable with their skills. Embarkation / Disembarkation
Alor liveaboard trips are usually from Maumere to Maumere, guests need to fly to Maumere airport (MOF).
However, some liveaboards often combine Alor with other destinations like Komodo, Banda Sea, Raja Ampat. Then you might only need to arrive or depart from Maumere.

Raja Ampat

Best time for diving
Mid October to April, the wind then picks up in May until the end of August, causing rougher seas and this means Misool area in the south will be shut from June to September. From July until September the diving in the north still can be enjoyable. The visibility can vary from 10 - 30 meters, current can be from mild to strong at times.

About temperatures
Air : fairly constant between 25°C - 31°C year-round.
Sea : it is warm all year round, about 27°C - 31°C

Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 3 mm full wetsuit throughout the year.

Diver requirement

Embarkation / Disembarkation
Most of the embarkation / disembarkation will be in Sorong (SOQ).
Few liveaboards also departs from Waisai (RJM).
The easiest to fly through to & from Sorong (SOQ) via Jakarta (CGK), Makassar (UPG), Bali (DPS), or Manado (MDC).

Komodo

Best time for diving
May to October, the weather in Komodo is at its best between April and November. During the wet season (December to March) the weather can get a bit windy, with heavy quick rains, sometimes can cause rough surface conditions. However, liveaboards run trips here year-round.

The visibility in the North is excellent at 30 meters or even more, while it ranges between 10-15 meters in the South.
Some dive sites can have significant currents, whirlpools and see downdrafts. Sea conditions might change very quickly. Other dive sites are more quiet and rich in macro, especially in the South.

About temperatures
Air : range between 23°C - 32°C year-round.
Sea : in the North Komodo it can be around 26°C -27°C, while it gets colder towards the south where it can drop down to 22 ° C.

Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 5 mm full wetsuit throughout the year for Komodo area.

Diver requirement
Intermediate to Advanced level, A good level in diving and some experience in drift diving are recommended to participate to Komodo cruise.

Unless the trip is from Bali - Komodo, then the embarkation can be in Bali (DPS).

Cenderawasih Bay

Best time for diving
Mid June to early November, diving is possible year-round, the plankton bloom usually happens between September and early April which attract the whale sharks even more, but you can see them in the bay year round. Liveaboards usually offer trips in Cenderawasih bay when other Indonesian sites are affected by inclement weather between June to October. Visibility can be between 10 - 35 meters here with mild currents.

Air : generally ranges between 25°C - 32°C year-round.
Sea : it is warm all year round, about 27°C - 30°C

Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 3 mm full wetsuit throughout the year.

Embarkation / Disembarkation
Depending on which itinerary you choose, the embarkation / disembarkation can be in Manokwari (MKW), Nabire (NBX), Biak (BIK). The international airport with the best connections is Jakarta (CGK).

However, some live­aboard trips will combine Cenderawasih bay with other destinations like Raja Ampat, then the embarkation and disembarkation will be different. So please ask our agent to know the exact port for your trip.

Banda Sea

Best time for diving
October to November & March to April, the seas are generally calmer during these months and in October to November there is higher chance to see hammerhead sharks. From May to August the surface conditions can get quite rough.

The visibility is generally good to excellent in Banda Sea areas, except in Ambon bay and in other bays for critter dives. Currents are low to moderate on most of the sites, however, strong currents may occur at times.

About temperatures
Air : range between 25°C - 31°C year-round.
Sea : range between 26°C - 29°C year-round.

Wetsuit Recommendation
We recommend a 3 - 5 mm full wetsuit throughout the year.

Diver requirement
